Lions Culture

Based on the Third Object of Lions, the new Lions Cultural Program was officially approved in October 2000. The purpose of this program is to take an active interest in the civic, cultural, social and moral welfare of the community. This new program is an opportunity to encourage Lions clubs to organize activities that celebrate culture and improve the community.

Lions Cultural Programs
Culture is defined as "behavior patterns, arts, beliefs, institutions and all other products of human work and thought; characteristic of a community. "Lions can promote their individual cultures by sponsoring an arts festival, a talent show, a music concert, a sponsored race or a sports event.

All of these projects provide methods of connecting Lions with their communities. Lions often implement cultural programs for children, the blind, the elderly and for those who are physically or mentally challenged.

An online survey conducted in September 2000, asked Lions clubs about their cultural projects. Results from this survey revealed:

  • Lions in Latin America support art festivals, dance workshops, concerts and literary contests.
  • In Europe, Lions cultural activities feature their history and restoration of buildings, fountains and artwork.
  • Among Lions clubs in the Orient and Southeast Asia, charity concerts and seminars are popular cultural activities.
  • Folk and tribal dance performances are supported by Lions in the Middle East, South Asia and Africa.
  • In Australia, Lions clubs are involved in choirs, festivals, parks and parades.
